Born on April Fool’s Day, I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of pranks in my life. So in the early days of the 2020 pandemic, I decided to have a little harmless fun in my Bronx neighborhood. I custom made super-sized surgical masks for Van Cortlandt Park’s famed Tortoise and the Hare statues, and early in the morning on April 1, dragged my family to the park to tie them on.
